When Spring Comes Early
Something a bit experimental, using some different sound textures -- but I've ended up pleased with it. The construction of this piece started with a pattern of piano chords that I recorded while doing some improvisation. I then arranged these recorded chords into an AAB form that simply repeats twice. I improvised the harmonica lines using the "Woody Harmonica" patch on my Yamaha Mox8 keyboard. The bass part is fully written out in Sibelius, self-consciously attempting a Jaco Pastorius feel, using the Sibelius built-in fretless bass sound. Strings are also written out in Sibelius, and the percussion is a combination of two different loop sources, stretched and rearranged to fit the tune.
